Watford head coach Gianfranco Zola suggests Stephen McGinn may make loan move to get playing again

Gianfranco Zola believes Stephen McGinn could gain “a lot of benefit” from a short-term move in his efforts to complete his return from an 18-month injury lay-off.

The midfielder has not been involved at first-team level since suffering serious knee ligament damage in the 2-1 defeat at Doncaster Rovers in February 2011. But the Hornets’ first-team coach is delighted with the 23-year-old’s performances in training and is keen to get him playing again.

“I’m very pleased with him,” Zola said on Tuesday. “He’s been training excellently, his attitude is magnificent and it’s just a pity that right now there’s not an opportunity for me to give him a game.

“I spoke to him and obviously if we can find a way where he can go for a while and play some games it will be ideal for him, it will be a lot of benefit for him. But as far as I’m concerned, I’m happy with him, he’s a quality player and he just needs to play.”

Hopefully a League 1 club may come in for him. Im not convinced that he is good enough for a promotion chasing team. Showed some promise after a slow start to his WFC career and 18 months is an extremely long time out of the game. Hope im wrong.
