It’s hard not to like Barnsley. They are a similar sized club to Watford, with similar family values and an almost identical ground. Their funny looking fans say things like, “Ay up t' tykes,” and, “tis a brant hill up t’Oakwell young lad.”

They love Parky, Dickie Bird, Bruce Dyer, gravy, dry stone walls, whippets, mining, flatcaps, pipes - their mascot is a cheeky bulldog who looks like he’d be good company down the pub. Oh Barnsley, you did us a huge favour by beating Hull last year and it should have been enough to get us to the Premier League.

Ah Barnsley, it has been so hard disliking you for so many years, but at that can change because... the Barnsley bogey bubble has burst.

Barnsley have always been a bit of a bogey side for The Glory Hornet Boys. I’ve never been to Oakwell and seen us take three points, Watford had not won since 2000, and I’m not sure we had that much luck before then either. Previous Watford bogey sides (Palace, Preston, Blackpool, Burnley, Luton) have been so easy to dislike, but Barnsley have always been so hard to hate.

I’ll be honest I didn’t fancy us taking more than a point at the weekend, not due to form, or talent, but because of the bogeyness. I don’t think any of us could have truthfully predicted that 5-1.

Surely this absolute mauling has now killed off any lingering hoodoo concerns for future Barnsley ties and we can all get on and just like them again.

Tonight however, it’s bogeys back on the agenda, because I believe Norwich have only beaten us once in their last eight, and not won any of their last four trips to The Vic. Bogey o’clock it is then, let’s hope this particular hoodoo isn’t about to be broken.
