When I close my eyes I can still see it. A ball slipped through by Abdi, there’s no way Matej can get there but he does, every time he does.

“Go on, Matej!” I shout, he brushes off one, two, three defenders, suddenly he’s one on one, a worried goalkeeper flops, a net bulges, a stadium explodes.

Super Matty Vydra. God he was something.

Probably one of the top ten forwards Watford have ever had, arguably top five, possibly top two.

More than just Championship Player of The Season, he was a boy who consoled fans after defeat, celebrated with them in town after victory.

So very special, so very talented, but our Matej era didn’t last long... which got me thinking - just how good would he be like in this season’s team?

Hard fought games like Wigan might not have been so very hard fought, 5-1 drubbings like victory at Barnsley might have hit double figures, that Blackpool defeat surely would have been a win.

Everything would probably be just that little bit faster, that little bit more exciting, Deeney wouldn’t have so much pressure on his shoulders.

Silly old Matej, he really should have come home.

All that said, personally I believe this season’s Vydraless team to be stronger than last year’s XI.

We haven’t really even got into our stride yet but at moments we do look so incredibly good.

Our strikers too - Deeney’s getting goals, Fernando’s so electric, Acuna’s a mini beast and Fabbrini seems so different to any other footballer I have ever seen try to kick a ball.

It could be said that Matej wouldn’t even get in our team right now. I think I have actually heard that said (albeit by someone I think was drunk).

So how much do we miss Matej Vydra? I just don’t know...
