Blackburn and Huddersfield, I picked the wrong game.

Well done to those who headed up the M1 twice but I could only manage one trip past the Watford Gap last week and I opted for Blackburn.

The game was utter pants, the worst performance since the play-off final. ‘uddersfield ‘owever sounded grand.

I made a terrible mistake and one that I should have been able to predict. Our last trips to Lancashire? Blackburn, Blackpool, Preston and Burnley based woe.

I might be wrong, but I think the last time we won up there was in 2009 when Brenda was our boss, and Priskin got the winner at Bloomfield Road.

Yorkshire however is home to win after win in recent times, 6-1s, 5-1s, Saturday sounded like it could have been 10-1.

Whilst I imagine everyone’s trip to Huddersfield was a never-ending conga of sheer joy, my Blackburn experience was miserable from the off.

Let’s start with the steward that directed me to my seat. Oh the gloom that poured from that grey sweaty man. “Nobody bothers to come ‘ere anymore,” he said. “You shouldn’t have come either, it’ll be nil nil.”

Christ, if he wasn’t enough, there were the local hoodlums waiting for a fight after the game. No thank you, we’re from Hertfordshire don’t you know.

To be fair some Watford fans were just as ridiculous. There was a bit of infighting amongst the travelling 500 about a lack of atmosphere at Ewood, which to be fair was strange as the noise generated at our away games is usually so good.

The whole feeling of silent misery peaked with an old bloke swearing off for people daring to stand up during corners.

Since when did we not even stand up for corners? A man grumpy enough to get a stewarding job with Rovers!

The only upside of opting for Blackburn instead of Huddersfield was being able to enjoy Jon Marks’ commentary for the latter.

To think we used to call his station One County Radio, due to its obsession with a certain Bedfordshire side and a complete lack of knowledge on anything Watford.

Brilliant stuff yet again from Marks, the man is just excellent, he should be given a job on Match of The Day.
