FATHER Christmas is to visit Darlington's main shopping centre to launch its festive celebrations.

Darlington’s Cornmill Shopping Centre will host the annual reindeer parade on Sunday, November 25, when Santa, Rudolph and Percy the Penguin will be make their way through the town and into the centre’s lower mall.

The parade will start at 11am from the Cornmill's Tubwell Road entrance, where the sleigh will follow the Cockerton Band, who will be playing festive songs. Once inside, the backdrop will be Cornmill’s Eskimo ice sculpture.

Susan Young, manager of the centre said: “The kids will enjoy meeting some real, live reindeers and passing on their Christmas letters to Santa, while parents will be entertained by music from the fantastic Cockerton Silver Band.”

Visitors who would like to meet Santa and his reindeer should be at the Cornmill at around 11.30am. Parking in the centre car park is free on a Sunday.
