KIND-hearted Oldbury Academy sixth formers raced ahead to achieve their fundraising challenge of collecting £1,000 for a greyhound rescue charity.
The 10-strong tutor group raised £700 by selling samosas to staff each week and raffling a sweet tree donated by a parent. One of them, Makhan Sumal, ran in the Great Birmingham Half Marathon and raised £132.
To top their target, the students took part in a sponsored dog walk taking all 25 hounds from the Hall Green Retired Greyhound Trust’s Belbroughton kennels out on their leads last Friday.
Other tutor groups at the Pound Road school have raised money for charities including those researching into chromes disease, pancreatic and breast cancer, Children in Need and the RSPCA after each were loaned £100 to launch their fundraising challenges.
