Designs for Harpenden’s new leisure, culture and arts facilities are being developed following a consultation period.

Feedback included requests for a steam room, sauna and increased swimming capacity in the leisure centre as well as a performance space and multiple refreshment areas in the adjacent arts centre.

St Albans District Council announced in a cabinet meeting they are developing designs for the integrated leisure centre, with adjacent arts facility in time to apply for planning permission in October.

The designs received feedback from residents during the final phase of community consultations, which was completed earlier this month, as well as workshops and meetings last year.

There will be a separate consultation for the newly developed designs later this year, before the planning application is put forward in the autumn.

The council has opened and reopened Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre, Batchwood Sports Centre and Cotlandswick Sports Centre over the past five years.
