Kerry Pollard has been selected as the Labour Party’s parliamentary candidate for St Albans.

Mr Pollard has been imposed as the candidate by the national party.

Pollard held the seat from 1997 to 2005, when he was defeated by Conservative MP Anne Main, who remains the MP today.

But pro-Brexit Main upset her constituents in 2016, when she said she was “very happy” to be leaving the European Union, despite 62.7 per cent of people from St Albans voting to remain.

When Pollard stood in the 2015 election, he received 23 per cent of all votes.

Lorna Snowbell, on behalf of the Labour Party, said candidate selections would not be revealed until next week.
