A charity shop will be closing its doors for the final time in mid-October as the costs of running are too high.

The Peace Hospice store in High Street, London Colney will not be renewing its lease on the shop as the branch is making less money and the costs are increasing.

Chief executive officer at Peace Hospice Care Declan Carroll thanked staff and volunteers who had worked at the shop since it opened in 2014.

“This was a very tough decision but we have to make the numbers add up and, unfortunately, we cannot continue to run a shop that isn’t making a profit.

“The London Colney community has, and continues to be, very supportive of the work we do caring for people with life-limiting illness. For that we are very grateful.

“Even though we will not have a high street shop in the area we look forward to continuing to work with the local community to raise vital funds needed to run our services.

“Over the coming weeks we’ll also be talking to shop staff and volunteers about other opportunities available that will enable them to continue to support our work.”

The Peace Hospice provides free care and support for patients facing life-limiting illnesses.
