Hertfordshire Constabulary will continue its high-visibility patrols following this morning’s terror attack outside a north London mosque.

One man was killed and 10 were injured when a van was driven into worshippers outside the Muslim Welfare House in Finsbury Park.

A 48-year-old white male has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Chief Superintendent Owen Weatherill said: “Hertfordshire Constabulary is continuing to conduct reassurance patrols across the county as part of our on-going response to the recent terror attacks, including the latest incident in London overnight.

“We are constantly working with the Home Office and other forces across the country to monitor the security situation and co-ordinate our response effectively.

“The UK’s terror threat level remains Severe, which means an attack is highly likely. With this in mind we continue to ask the public to remain alert, but not alarmed and to report any suspicious activity to the confidential police hotline on 0800 789 321. In an emergency always dial 999.

“People should also familiarise themselves with the national Run Hide Tell guidance in case of being caught up in an incident. You can view the video at www.gov.uk/government/publications/stay-safe-film.

“There can never be any excuse for hate crime in any shape or form and this criminality will not be tolerated.

“More people are reporting hate crime than ever before but it is still significantly underreported. Don’t suffer in silence; there are people who can help you.”
