A man was hit in the head with a baseball bat in St Albans and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
At 1.15am on June 18, a 24-year-old man from Harpenden was hit with a baseball bat after attempting to break up a fight in the street.
The fight was taking place at the junction of High Street and Chequer Street.
After the victim attempted to intervene, a car pulled up alongside the group and the driver hit the man's head with a baseball bat and drove off.
The victim is in a stable condition in hospital, but sustained head injuries.
Police arrested a 28-year-old man from St Albans on suspicion of GBH but he was released pending further investigation.
Detective Constable Paul Edmondson from St Albans Local Crime Unit said he believes there were a number of people in the area at the time of the attack, and is appealing for witnesses to come forward.
