Allotment holders will have the opportunity to join the debate on increasing fees.
The leader of the combined allotments associations will represent allotment holders at the City Neighbourhoods Committee on June 28, where they will consider a “phased increase” in fees for allotments over a five year period.
There will be four options put forward over changes to annual fees, which the committee heard in March do not cover servicing or maintaining common areas at the sites.
The St Albans Liberal Democrats said they will oppose “any unjustifiable increase in fees” and will ensure the new fees will not be a case of trying to “balance the books”.
City Neighbourhoods Committee chairman Cllr Alun Davies said: “I listened to a number of allotment holders and residents about the fees and it is clear to me that further information and discussion is needed before a decision on fees can be made by the committee.”
The final decision will take place in September’s meeting, but members of public are welcome to attend the initial debate on Wednesday.
The meeting will take place at St Albans City and District Council’s chamber at the Civic Centre, St Peter’s Street, from 7pm, and will also be webcast.
