The council has bid for two plots in St Albans to rejuvenate the city.

St Albans City and District Council has bid for the former police station in Victoria Street and the NHS site in Civic Close and is advised that it is the "preferred bidder" for both.

At a council cabinet meeting Cllr Julian Daly said: "We want to see this area ā€“ the so called City Centre Opportunity Site ā€“ developed in a cohesive way and for the benefit of our community."

The police station closed in 2015 to move into the Civic offices and the Police and Crime Commissioner David Lloyd welcomed the renovation of the old site.

He said: "This development will deliver on-going revenue for us to spend on local policing and Iā€™m pleased to be able to continue the great work we already do with the district council, where our police station is now situated."

A spokesperson from the Hertfordshire NHS Trust also welcome working in partnership with the council to improve their site and provide "modern healthcare" for residents.
