He first came to many people's attention on Britain’s Got Talent, but comedian Daliso Chaponda casts his eye further afield in his forthcoming tour.

The 38-year-old, who is originally from Malawi, will be beginning his first headlining world tour What The African Said in February, coming to the Alban Arena May 10.

The comedian began his career in Canada 2001, moving to the UK in 2006.

Chaponda came third in the 2017 Britain’s Got Talent, however, it was the aftermath that really took him by surprise.

Judge Amanda Holden clearly saw huge potential in Daliso when she used her ‘golden buzzer’ on him during the series, shocking both the audience and Daliso, he said: “I went on the show with very little expectations, I thought the kind of people that get the golden buzzer are normally very young with an unusual talent.

"When Amanda used hers on me I was very shocked, it was an amazing moment.

“The success and support has taken me by surprise, I am being recognised all over the place and am very grateful. I hope to see the judges at my tour.”

He has since created a huge buzz in the UK, gaining over 8 million views on both Facebook and YouTube.

He now lives with his wife in Manchester whilst working on new material. He has been very busy since the show; earlier this year he co-created and starred in Radio 4’s drama When the Laughter Stops and appeared on The Now Show.

He has also signed with BBC Radio 4 to create a new stand-up comedy series called Daliso Chaponda: Citizen of Nowhere, due to air in 2018, the series will explore the history of Britain’s relationship with Africa, in which the Malawian will take on the role of cultural relationship guidance counsellor between Britain and Africa.

The series will also explore his personal relationship with both places. Daliso will be integrating his own experience with living all over the globe into his series to create a better understanding between different cultures.

Doors open at 6.30pm. Tickets cost £15. Call 01727 844488 or visit www.alban-arena.co.uk/events/daliso-chaponda/
