A petite woman who left a “boorish” pub-goer badly scarred in a violent attack with a Desperados bottle had her sentence slashed.

Lily-May Commins, 23, was locked up for four years and three months at St Albans Crown Court in August 2016.

The promising footballer, of Cockle Way, Shenley, Radlett, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Commins lashed out at John Fox after midnight while out with a group of pals in Borehamwood.

“His behaviour was boorish and became unpleasant,” Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb told London's Appeal Court yesterday.

At one point, slightly built Commins “assertively” confronted Mr Fox, added the judge, shouting “why don’t you eff off?”

Commins then seemed to “break away” as she was being held back by a friend, the court heard.

But the judge added: “She took a bottle from a table and struck Mr Fox over the head with it.”

“It was done without hesitation. After striking him, she stepped back and threw the rest of the bottle at Mr Fox.”

The victim was left with cuts to his face and head, causing scarring.

“He now feels that people look at him more often than before, and feels he is being judged,” the court heard.

Commins challenged her sentence today, claiming it was far too harsh.

Her legal team highlighted her guilty plea, genuine remorse, and her role as carer for her mum.

Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb, sitting with two other judges, noted the seriousness of Commins’ crime.

She and her group of friends were “not under threat” from Mr Fox, she added.

But she concluded: “We are persuaded that the judge failed to take sufficient account of the unpleasant behaviour of Mr Fox.

“His company was not wanted by that group of women.”

The three judges allowed Commins’ appeal, cutting her sentence to three years and nine months.
