An air ambulance has been called to a “serious” crash on the M25.

The incident involves a single vehicle and happened just after 7.30am this morning.

The M25 is shut between j17 and 18 clockwise and there are long delays in both directions. Clockwise, queues are back to the M40.

Some drivers have been able to turn around and leave the motorway while others have reported being stuck in queues for two hours and have been told to switch their engines off.

Drivers are being diverted off at j17 and there are severe delays in Chorleywood and Rickmansworth.

Roads which are currently badly affected include the A404 Rickmansworth Road and Chorleywood Road.

Expect delays along the country lanes too toward Chandlers Cross and Sarratt.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police are currently at the scene of a single-vehicle road traffic collision on the M25. Motorists are advised to avoid the area at this time."

The East of England ambulance service has been approached.
