Prime Minister Visits Cycle Hub
On Thursday, 12th August I was very privileged to meet Prime Minister David Cameron and Olympic Cyclists Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendelton. They were visiting Watford Cycle Hub, which is one of our Social Enterprises, to find out how the Hub is promoting cycling in Watford.
The Cycle Hub is a one stop shop for all things cycling in the community for the community and was set up in November 2012 with funding from the Trust. Based in the Pavilion at the Holywell Community Centre, the Hub is a non-profit community bike centre and I was really interested to find out more about this Social Enterprise as it’s definitely not just a traditional bike shop. After chatting away with the staff I discovered that the Hub offers lots of support and it’s a great place to go if you are looking to purchase a bike, take a cycling course, even learn how to repair a bike. They also offer women’s only cycling training and Bikeability which is a ‘Cycling Proficiency’ for children up to secondary school level and is designed to teach skills and confidence to ride safely on our roads.
It has been a while since I have been on my bike (although you never forget) and I enrolled on a course to teach me how to maintain it. I am really looking forward to the course which I am sure is going to be full of exciting tips to help me keep my bike in top condition. They also help with lots of advice and information relating to cycling and bikes, including local cycle routes, maps and news about locally led rides.
So if you see me wobbling around the streets of Watford peddling away, look out folks Trusty’s about - here I come!
