YOU,M.E & THE MONTH OF MAY?

Photograph of the Author By Stacy Hart »

Don’t panic, Dr who hasn’t crept up and whisked you away in his tardis while you were sniffing the daffodils. We are without doubt still in March, the reason for my leap into May is because it will be M.E awareness month, www.afme.org.uk so this gives you plenty of time to arrange dangerously death defying feats, stupendously stoopid stunts or any other ways to seduce friends, family and members of the public into parting with that paper stuff in their purses & wallets to raise money for the charity “Action for M.E” (parking tickets, haemorrhoid cream receipts, & dead moths etc, not accepted) This charity has been a lifeline for so many people, myself included. I know how hard it is to part with dosh especially when we’re in a recession and I can already visualize you putting your fingers in your ears “la la la not listening, not listening” nothing to do with me huh? Well maybe, maybe not. M.E is an illness without prejudice, it doesn’t care if you’re black or white, young or old, male or female, it doesn’t care if it’s inconvenient, if you had your life planned out, nobody gets an invitation to illsville so don’t expect a card to drop through your door anytime soon. You or any member of your family could be struck down with it at any time. I certainly didn’t see it coming when it struck 18yrs ago, I’d been a bit poorly which doctors put down to stress which seemed plausible, it wasn’t life threatening so that was good enough for me, I was typically young, indestructible & had my whole life mapped out with goals & dreams , then I got a very bad dose of flu one Christmas day and never really recovered again and things just went from bad to worse, and as simple as that life changed forever.

A prime example is my nephew Jonny, two years ago at the age of 13/14 he was also struck down with M.E. he was doing okay at school, fit, loved sports, played in a rugby team and suddenly he became ill and he just went downhill until he could no longer go to school, play sports, or see his friends, it was heartbreaking to see a once fit strapping lad struggle to even stand, Thankfully diagnosis is a lot quicker now in most cases and he had to have complete rest, he also saw alternative therapist Nigel Gee who is an energy for life healerwww.nigelgee.co.uk/ and with Nigels help he eventually made a full recovery. He’s now 16 and back doing all the things he loves. I also saw Nigel, and although sadly it didn’t have the same happy ending as my nephew he did help me immensely from being virtually housebound for five years unable to go out unaccompanied, within 3wks I was able to make short distances by myself which felt absolutely fantastic and for that I’ll be eternally grateful. I also aim to go back & see Nigel again shortly.

I’m sure you can think of some wonderfully wacky ways to raise cash, and get the kids involved at the same time, but if your stuck for ideas you can get a fundraising pack by calling Nicola fickling on 0117 930 7293 or email her at Nicola.fickling@afme.org.uk and if you let them know what your doing as soon as you can they’ll even help publicise the event, as I’m sure the nice people at the Watford observer will do too :) I myself was thinking of doing a sponsored lick-a-cheek week but due to health & safety (mainly mine) I had a change of heart...however I have the demo album “Raw” and the two singles off the next album “Lowdown dirty raw n street” & “It’s coz I’m a girl innit?” all up for download on itunes and all other major download sites and every penny raised from them will go to afme. So come & get downloading. www.myspace.com/mamachill.

Last week I saw that the clothes shop punkyfish in Watford were looking for people to send in photos of themselves wearing punkyfish gear that they could stick up in their shop and as it happened I had two pics of me wearing their clothes and doing my best GGrrr bad ass rapper impression, so I sent them in, and they emailed back to say they liked them and were going to stick them up soon, so be kind, no dart throwing huh?

This week, as well as still being relapsed with M.E I’ve got flu, red blotchy face, cracked lips, snotty nose, bloodshot eyes, MMMmmmmm attractive. But I was cheered up by Maureen who sent me....wait for it......drum roll.....a big slab of Cadburys dairy milk...Woo Hoo. So big thanks and shout out to Maureen, I’m so shamelessly cheap to please, which is unusual for a women, but what a way to end the week.

More market pics up, enjoy. See ya next Friday, back before Elvis :) xxx www.myspace.com/unsignedstudiosuk

It's difficult to understand how M.E. can change a persons life but your Blogg puts it into perspective - with humour, may I add, which you manage to keep.
I admire your attitude and approach towards something you have no control over.
Hopefully it will reach out to many people and give a better understanding -KEEP IT COMING!!!!!!!!

Is ME genetic? If not, what a coincidence for 2 people in the family have it! Im glad youve reconsidered the lick-a-cheek idea.... it conjured up a rather unpleasant image involving people bending over *shudders*. Take a leaf out of my book and stick to licking windows :)

Is it the Cadburys that is making your face blotchy or is it possibly preventing things from going bad to worse?! I'm thinking there should be a study done. You, a room and lots of chocolate. Are you up for it?
Anyhow, I'll be going to the AFME site to make a donation. I hope they take American money, even though it doesn't seem to be worth much these days. Warm hugs to you Stacy.

Hi Stacy
As usual very informative and funny
blog, I just wish it wasn't so tragic...this bloody illness, as a matter of extreme interest why wasn't Nigel able to help you as much as he obviously could help Jonny (shall I have a word with him!)
Seriously, I would be interested.
Regards ME month in May, I think it's about time Ray at Ell's Kitchen swopped his own personal Alzhiemers collection box for an ME collection box, or else!!! Incidentally
Stacy which 'cheeks' had you in mind?
Listened to more of your music the weekend, it really is amazing, don't give up on it. Lets have it on that stooopid stage.
Many hugs (well when you've got rid od that awful cold and blotchy face that is)

This is still debatable bunnyflower, and something that needs to be looked at in research, some scientists believe there is a genetic link as there are many families with more than one member with M.E, but others view it as coincedence, so that's why raising money for research is so important, there is so much we just dont know yet. thanx for supporting the blog :) xxx

Hi Stacy

Thanks for making us aware that May is M.E. awareness month. I certainly will be donating to this very worthwhile charity. I was particularly interested in your comments about research into possible genetic/family links. Sorry to hear that you've had a relapse recently - hope your health will improve soon. Thinking of you with love. xx
