The U3A in Watford by an Active Oldie

I am starting my first article by asking the question, “Are you aware of the U3A movement”? First of all, U3A stands for University of the Third Age. The U3A is a learning cooperative of older people, which enables members to share many educational, creative and leisure activities. Anyone in the Third Age can join the U3A and this includes people who are working part time. No qualifications are required and none are given.

There are more than 760 U3As in the UK with over 250,000 individual members.

Our activities range from Art Appreciation Groups to Walking Groups. Any member can start a group of their own choice with other like-minded members.

My role as Watford Park U3A Study Group Coordinator is to link our Study Group Leaders with our membership. I also belong to Watford & District U3A and lead and take part in many activities. I get enormous satisfaction in seeing our members’ enjoyment in belonging to our organisation. We hold Monthly Meetings and have a speaker to entertain us. At the end of the meetings we have the opportunity to chat over coffee or tea.

Further blogs will be about our activities in more detail.
