I had such a blast on Wednesday, what a day it was. It all started with a visit to our offices by the Community Gateway Association, RCT Homes, Greenfields Community Housing and Phoenix Housing Association. Lunch was provided in the Board Rooms for our guests it was really yummy I can tell you. I am quite partial to a bit of chilli and rice and the vegetable curry and naan bread was really good too. Of course, you can’t finish lunch without a few calories and there were some really super duper desserts but I went for the healthy option of water melon. I have to watch my waistline or I will end up a tubby Trusty.
I then needed to work off my lunch so what was better than a tour of our offices to explain to our visitors more about our organisation.
We all then went over to the Colosseum for the rest of the day’s activities. Of course, behind the scenes staff have been really busy putting all the finishing touches to the fantastic stands that were available with so much information accessible to all our visitors. Vibe 107.6 were also there playing music in the foyer for us as everyone arrived which created a really nice ambience to commence the event.
We were also delighted to welcome our members and some of our partners also joined us for the afternoon.
The proceedings commenced with the play “My New Coat” which was performed by two people who visited us from the RCT contingency. (They came all the way from Wales for us. I tried out a couple of Welsh words that I had been learning and they were really impressed with how much I had learnt so quickly). This was a very poignant play with a strong meaning behind it about loan sharks and was incredibly moving, it brought a tear or two to my eyes I can tell you.
Following this, Wayne Hemingway gave us a brief synopsis about his background and his plans for future housing developments. Wayne was originally a fashion designer and founder of Red or Dead. He now focuses his energy on Hemingway Design and specialises in affordable housing. Then we had the formal proceedings of our Annual General Meeting including voting by our members. I was really upset when I was told I couldn’t vote. I so wanted to play with one of those little machines and press the numbers but it was only for members and who am I after all, only the most important person (well house) anyway!!
To end the evening we had our very own “Trust Band” give their debut performance with Ruairi McCourt (Director of Housing & Neighbourhood Services, Gareth Lewis (Director of Property & New Business) on guitar, Keith Duncan (Facilities) on drums and Joe Dumont (Communications & Marketing Manager) as lead singer. It was such fun, they really rocked and the atmosphere was “electric” with guests dancing in the aisles. There I was of course, centre of attention bopping away to the music. When they finished playing the applause was incredible and we just all shouted “more, more, more” until they gave us a few more songs which brought the evening to a close on a real high. Next year, it will be our 5th Birthday and we are just beginning to think about our plans for this, so watch this space we have some really cool ideas.
