Although I do love watching television I also enjoy listening to the radio and last weekend I had the privilege to listen to our Chair, Diane Lee who appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme which was recorded at Watford Town Hall. Diane was taking part in a ‘Focus Group’ discussion about the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement and was one of a handful of people taking part in the discussion with presenter John Humphrys. The other participants included Mayor Dorothy Thornhill, local residents, business people and a couple of students. I could listen to Diane speak for ages and ages, she is so knowledgeable and gave her views from both a personal perspective and as Chair of the Trust. It was a very honest and profound interview and the comments from the group discussion touched on the difficulties experienced by a large cross-section of the local community. I can tell you it made me even more concerned about the economic situation that is around all of us today.
Although I keep up-to-date with the news on a daily basis, it is absolutely imperative that we support our local businesses and that we continue to work really hard to promote Watford and ensure that it stays a prosperous town. This in its turn will help create work opportunities and improve unemployment. It needs to be a town that people from outside the area want to come and visit whether it be for work, shopping, our cultural activities or anything else. After all, we have the fantastic Palace Theatre and the Colosseum that are offering very diverse selections of productions and films available and let’s not forget our very own radio station Vibe 107.6.
At the Trust we are continuously looking at ways to ensure that we are delivering our promises and that we are an Organisation of choice. It’s all about getting it right first time, meeting our tenants’ expectations and providing good quality services. Also, ensuring that we as an organisation grow to develop new homes for our tenants and we are always investigating different avenues to help make our properties greener. On Tuesday evening I had the pleasure of attending the Mayor, Dorothy Thornhill’s networking event to celebrate Christmas.
The event was very enjoyable with drinks, canapés and festive music provided by a local jazz band. Networking is one of the most important ways to stay in touch with local businesses where people can promote their company and we can help stay in touch with each other and work in partnership.
Let’s all help Watford to be a vibrant and exciting town ……..”the place that everyone wants to live in”. To find out more information about the radio broadcast or anything else happening at the Trust, please contact me on trusty.house@wcht.org.uk.
