X Factor Antics Continue
Frankie Cocozza’s early departure has added to the long list of antics which the X Factor has mustered up in the latest series of the show. Cocozza’s exit was down to his party lifestyle and his continuous controversial behaviour. He broke ‘the golden rule’ according to the show but no further reasons were given for the contestant’s axing.
It’s not only the contestants that have been misbehaving. Female judges Tulisa and Kelly Rowland have had numerous off-air disputes. The main argument was started by Tulisa on-air, when she suggested that Rowland’s act Misha B had been harassing and bullying other singers backstage. This led to Kelly returning to her Los Angeles home where she was taken ill amid to many reports which claimed that she was healthy but was trying to make a point. Kelly missed one weekend of shows and even called in with a croaky voice on the results show to vote out her own act Sophie Habibis. I and many others believe that this voice was false to match her claims of being ill. Kelly has since returned and the pair of judges have resolved their differences according to the show.
Another ongoing dispute is between the other two judges Louis Walsh and Gary Barlow. They are both contesting for the head judge position following Simon Cowell’s removal from the judging panel after the last series. Neither of them are giving up without a fight leading to constant bickering and disagreement while commenting on the acts after they have performed.
In the last series, the average amount of viewers for each show was 12 million but for the latest series, the number of viewers has tumbled down to 9 million. I personally think that owner of X Factor Simon Cowell, is deliberately trying to add drama to the show so that the viewers don’t lose interest.
All this drama is being hyped up to cover the fact that the show is highly repetitive yet it still receives many viewers on a Saturday night. Simon Cowell will have to add a twist to X Factor next year if he wants to halt the downward slide of viewership.
