On a balmy September evening in 2007 I was in Paris with 20,000 other Scots for one of our nations proudest sporting moments when we beat a French team that the year before had been watched by billions in the final of the 2006 World Cup To the tune of the traditional Cuban folk song `Guantanamera` we serenaded our French hosts with our own lyrics “ Deep fry yer croissants, we`re gonnae deep fry yer croissants”

At The Three Crowns we sell Coca Cola both full fat and the skinny variety. We sell it because our customers ask for it and like it; I could save a couple of grand a year by switching to the other team and even more by siding with Mr Branson but would our customers like it?

At the tail end of last year our 6 year old ice maker gave up the ghost and decided to go to the great scrap heap in the sky, my footballing mate Bill Samways who knows a bit about electrical things ( they named Samways Electrical Services after him) had been and had a poke around and pronounced it as beyond repair.

I had only been to Norway once before, September 2005, to see Scotland beat Norway 2-1 and effectively end their chances of qualifying for the 2006 World Cup.

By Spring 2001 all bids had been submitted and we were in limbo concentrating on running the hotel which had taken off beyond all expectations and preparing for The Wales Open which was due to be staged at the beginning of August.

As 2000 progressed the guidelines for the bid started to change somewhat as I suspect the decision makers came to value what the impact of hosting The Ryder Cup meant to both the host nation and the host venue

By late Spring 2000 we were preparing for our first test, by staging the inaugural Wales Open with a field of 168 golfers, £1.25 million prize money and big names including Seve Ballesteros, Ian Woosnam & Sam Torrance.
