The First Of Its Kind

After local residents informed the Better Communities Fund (BCF) they wanted better facilities at Meriden Park, the BCF approached Watford Borough Council for permission to provide equipment on their land. On 6th February this year work commenced with the construction of a Sports Legacy Project on the Meriden Park, within one of our largest housing estates and should complete sometime in mid April 2012. Specially designed by Prodludic, one of the UK’s leading providers of outdoor play and sports equipment, the BCF are on schedule to deliver this Inter-Generational Sports Legacy.

Fame is definitely coming to Watford as this project is the first of its kind in the country and is supported by Olympians - Steve Backley OBE and Roger Black MBE.

The project will include a Gymnasium, Children’s Park, Table Tennis, Sports Climbing Unit and many other features and is being designed for use by people of all ages not just by children.

One of my resolutions this year was to keep fit and I have been trying extremely hard to make sure that I do some kind of exercise each week, even if it’s just going for a very long walk. With this in mind, I am really excited as I will definitely be making sure I use the equipment when the project opens and going on a regular basis.

The local children at Berrygrove School were involved in the consultation for this project and will also be getting involved in a Community Day where they will have their hard hats on.

Yes people have wanted new facilities in Meriden park for a decade or more now, the recently removed play equipment predates the Mayor. I really think thou that if this is all signing and dancing as described it will swamp the Park and a better home could have been found for some of it.
Nice bit of political campaigning thou having it completed just before the May local elections.

It seems to Me that the council has listened to me and asked children what they want.

Unfortunetly they havent asked the right children.

This new "Super park" will be used by children and families yes but it will become a source of anti social behaviour.

The council should have approached local sixth forms and found out what young adults (14-18) year olds want.

if the council had done that they would have found out that the age group wanted a centre that they can learn skills from and have personal support from.

the young people of the meriden need jobs and houses not a super park imposed on then by a meriden councillor who lives in woodside who is out of touch with the people of meriden and most inportantly the young people of the meriden
