Plans to turn a former residential care home into flats and houses have been recommended for approval.
Margaret House residential home in Abbots Langley is currently vacant and requires 360-degree CCTV after multiple break-ins and vandalism. The 51-bed home owned by Hertfordshire County Council closed in October 2020.
A proposal for the council’s development company, Herts Living, to build 27 new homes on the land was then submitted, after the county council agreed to consider the site surplus and sell it for up to £3million.

The homes would include four two-bed houses and six three-bed houses, as well as 11 one-bed flats and six two-bed flats.
The planning application is up for Three Rivers District Council consideration next Thursday (May 23) and, ahead of the meeting, the council officer recommended it be approved.
The final decision will be made by the planning committee members.
Eight nearby residents objected to the plan and Abbots Langley Parish Council raised “serious” concerns over access to the site.
The main issues highlighted were the impact on traffic and parking, as well as construction vehicles being a safety concern at the start and end of the school day because the building is adjacent to Abbots Langley School.
