Reginald Stuart Malcolm Waller

Sad to hear this, but what a great age. Like many journalist trainees who passed through the Watford Observer, I owe a great deal to Malcolm. He took it upon himself to continue our training at the newspaper after we had left the company's journalist college in Hastings and his enthusiasm for the craft of journalism was infectious. 'No, no, no,' he would cry if one of us dared contradict his edicts. '"Thieves stole" is tautologous.' If he gave one of us a harder time it was because he saw the potential. We understood this and we respected him for it. He was a Watford man through and through with a real sense of the community the paper served. I hope the Watford Observer, with a staff and ownership that now seems to have little to do with the town, gives him the obituary he deserves. My thoughts are with his family.

Very sorry to hear this news about a lovely man. Malcolm gave up a lot of his spare time to coach me and our County Table Tennis team back in the late 80s and early 90's. My thoughts are with Tim and the rest of the family. Duncan Taylor.
