I hear on a near daily basis from local residents with the serious concerns they have about the 2019 Loan Charge. As a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group, I’ve been doing all I can in recent months to support them by raising these concerns with Ministers and speaking in Parliament on behalf of those affected in our community.

Why I abstained and defied my government's wishes on Brexit

As many of you will know, I believe leaving the EU without a deal would be deeply damaging to the economy, employers and the finances of households in Watford. That’s why I have consistently pressed the Prime Minister to avoid this scenario at all costs and provide businesses with the certainty they need at this critical point.

If a Brexit deal is not possible, we will have to consider delaying leaving the EU

The clock is ticking, and I am worried that a no deal Brexit is no longer just a negotiating tool, but a scary reality for so many concerned residents and businesses in Watford. That’s why I want to be straight with people. There is no such thing as a managed no-deal. There is just no deal – which would be catastrophic for business and the economy.

'NHS is the jewel of our public services'

As we approach the 70th Birthday of the NHS, I really want to celebrate the fantastic work of our local health service, and commend them for all their hard work. NHS staff provide excellent, compassionate care to us all every day. We’ve all been in a situation where we’ve had to rely on the NHS, to look after us or our family and friends. In my case, I’ve also seen the local health service care for my constituents. But it’s at times like this when we realise the true value of the jewel of our public services.
