Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was in Watford to help launch the local party’s manifesto.
Following a visit to The Little Learners Montessori to discuss the rising costs of childcare on Wednesday morning, Mr Corbyn addressed an audience of more than 300 Labour members at Westfield Academy.
After his appearance at the academy, Mr Corbyn spent the afternoon door knocking in the Holywell estate, accompanied by Oxford West and Abingdon MP Tracy Brabin, and Labour mayoral candidate Jagtar Singh-Dhindsa, as well as a number of councillors.
The leader also spent time meeting teachers to discuss education policies.
Watford Labour has released its manifesto ahead of the upcoming mayoral and local elections which take place on May 3.
Key points include campaigning to improve the building of a new hospital on the site of the current one, working with the county council to bring more school places to Watford, introducing more cycle lanes and a bike hire scheme, and extending the Oyster card scheme across Watford’s buses and trains with Zone 6 also being extended to Watford Junction.
The party wants to defend the rights and well-being of EU citizens who have settled in Watford.
Labour also wants to hold a referendum on the future of the mayoralty in Watford.
Jagtar Singh-Dhindsa is taking on Lib Dem candidate and current deputy mayor Peter Taylor, and Conservative candidate George Jabbour.
Dorothy Thornhill is stepping down as mayor after 16 years.
