Crime rates in London were on a massive rise in the last year, Metropolitan Police statistics show.

During 2019 in London, crime rates rose by 8.71 per cent compared in the last 12 months before December 2019, according to crime data statistics from Metropolitan Police.

Theft appeared to be the most alarming issue in London with 473,861 thefts from January 2018 to December 2019.

Violence against a person was the second highest reported crime in London, with 432,445 incidents reported.

In London as a whole, Westminster had the most crime with 145,238 offences and a crime rate of 575.6 per 1,000 population.

But which boroughs around North London and East London near you had the most to least crime rates?

1. Haringey

Within most of North London and East London, Haringey was victim to most reported crimes to the Metropolitan Police within 2019.

There were 63,303 overall offences reported and a crime rate of 221.5 per population of 1,000 people.

Violent attacks against a person was the most reported crime in Haringey, with 15,435 incidents.

Theft then followed this with 14,083 offences.

Vehicle offences were also on the high too, with 10,230 offences.

Crime rate was up by 3.71 per cent.

2. Brent

With 60,993 offences reported, Brent had a considerably high rate of 181.4 per population of 1,000.

Violence against a person is once again the most reported crime in this borough, even higher than Haringey, with 17,352 offences.

There were however 11,907 reported cases of theft, much less than Haringey.

Vehicle offences were also less than Haringey with 5,939 incidents.

Despite the high crime rate, the crime rate in Brent was down by 1.97 per cent.

3. Enfield

Enfield had 58,309 offences with a crime rate of 171.6 per population of 1,000 people.

14,989 of these offences involved violence against a person.

Notably, Enfield also had more vehicle offences than thefts, with 11,770 vehicle offences and just 10,601 thefts.

Crime rate was up by 8.36 per cent.

4. Waltham Forest

In Waltham Forest, there were 47,766 offences with a crime rate of 168.5 per population of 1,000 people.

12,516 of these were violent offences against a person.

The number of thefts were at 10,279 and vehicle offences were notably low at 8,181.

Crime rate was up by 1.55 per cent.

5. Redbridge

Redbridge saw 47,588 offences and a crime rate of 154.3.

12,528 of these were violent offences against someone within this period.

There were 9,518 thefts and 9,180 vehicle related incidents.

Crime rate was up 2.11 per cent.

6. Barnet

In Barnet, there were 59,676 offences and a crime rate of 150.5.

Violent crimes against a person is also much lower with 13,960 reports.

The number of thefts during this time saw 13,204 reports.

Then vehicle offences were at 11,912 reports.

Crime rate was notably up by 11.05 per cent.

7. Harrow

Harrow was not only the safest borough in this list with a crime rate of 126.5 and 32,226 offences– but was also one of the safest boroughs in 2019 in general.

There were just 9,010 violent offences against a person, 6,652 reported thefts and 4,880 vehicle offences.

Notably however, crime was up by 16.33 per cent in the last 12 months from December 2019, than the previous 12 months.
