A schoolboy from Watford has been cast in a West End musical.

Dylan Mynett, 10, attends independent prep school Edge Grove, in Radlett, and has secured a starring role in School of Rock. He is set to make his debut performance next month.

Having attended many auditions, Dylan, from Watford, also took part in a series of creative workshops aimed at further developing his acting, dancing, vocal and drumming skills, before heading to the final auditions in London where he landed the role of Freddy Hamilton, the drummer in the School of Rock band, which he alternates with two other young actors.

Dylan’s mother, Yvonne Mynett, said: “We are over the moon about Dylan’s West End debut and are immensely proud of his success and musical achievements both in and outside of school.

“Dylan started playing the drums when he was just six years old and has always been a natural entertainer and performer. His wonderful sense of humour and endearing charm means he also has a genuine affinity with the ‘cheeky chappy’ persona of Freddy’s character.”

Ben Evans, Headmaster at Edge Grove School, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Dylan and we are very proud of the relentless energy and resilience he has shown. As a prep school we are also committed to ensuring that children like Dylan are given the chance to shine and showcase their talents. This often means creating new opportunities to enable every child to succeed to the best of their ability as well as being able to flex and adapt to the individual needs of our pupils, as they arise. After all, our children are the future and they must grasp every adventure with both hands.”

Dylan is currently working hard in show rehearsals and is very excited about his upcoming performance in the hit Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within.
