Hundreds of youngsters flocked to a walk-in clinic in Watford yesterday to get their first Covid jab.

The venue at Stanborough Park Church was set up on Wednesday for over 18s from 9am to 7pm by volunteers from the One Vision Project and Watford Borough Council.

Many young people said they were taking their chance to help protect others – with 520 in total turning up for the jab.

One Vision founder and CEO Enoch Kanagaraj hailed the “excellent” day, which was the first walk-in clinic in Watford for anyone aged 18 or over.

Amy Cassidy from Kings Langley said she was getting the jab to "keep people safer", while Deanna Lawrence, 22, added: "I wanted to get it done early while I have a day off from work.

“As many people as possible need to get it in the world, not just the UK.

“Eighteen-year-olds are more likely to spread it so I think it’s more important that young people are vaccinated.”

Elliot Barker, 20, from Rickmansworth, also said young people getting vaccinated is an important part of stopping the spread and that he was the last person in his family to get the jab.

Watford's MP Dean Russell, who is also a trustee of One Vision and volunteers with the charity, said: "I am delighted that Watford was able to host this walk-in vaccine clinic.

“I would like to thank everybody that has been involved with getting this set up, and those who have been here today helping.

“It is great to see that people of all ages are so keen to get the vaccine and play their part, when you get the text please make sure you get the jab.”

One Vision Project aims to create a community in Watford and provide a network for the town’s voluntary organisations to co-ordinate activities.

Councillor Asif Khan said: “There is a good footfall of people coming in to protect the wider community.

“I urge anyone who is hesitant to come forward and get vaccinated.”
