Whether it is due to shops coming and going or infrastructure changes, the appearance of many Watford streets has altered over the years as this picture illustrates.
Many of us will have visited the town centre to buy our gifts for Christmas, but plenty of the shops we remember fondly have changed or disappeared altogether.
With the help of Watford Museum and its volunteer archivist Christine Orchard, we are looking back at some of those favourite shops and High Street scenes so many of us remember as the countdown to Christmas Day is almost complete.

This picture is from Christine’s private collection and shows a deserted Queens Road with Trewins prominent on the right before the appearance of the road changed forever with the construction of the Harlequin Centre.
