An Abbots Langley councillor will have a HIV test in public tomorrow to raise awareness of the disease leading up to World AIDS day.

Councillor Sara Bedford will undergo the HIV test tomorrow morning (Wednesday) to mark World AIDS day on Saturday, December 1.

Councillor Bedford, Liberal Democrat representative, said: "This is such a quick and easy way to be tested.

"I am keen to raise the profile of HIV and how easy it is to be tested. It is just the prick of a finger.

"Hopefully we will raise awareness and break down barriers and the stigma of HIV.

"A lot of people won’t be tested because they are worried the results may come back positive.

"Hopefully it will bring people forward who would usually avoid being tested."

The HIV test will take place tomorrow at 11:00am in the Three Rivers House, Rickmansworth.
