A Chorleywood school has won a greenhouse worth over £2,500 in a national gardening competition.

Chorleywood Primary School won first place in the 2013 Get Your Grown-ups Growing (GYGG) award run by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).

The school will receive a state-of-the-art greenhouse after triumphing in the competition run earlier this year by RHS and Hartley Botanics.

Claire Davies, gardening co-ordinator at the school, won the competition when her article was chosen by the RHS for its "inspiring account of a GYGG event".

To win the greenhouse, pupils and parents got their hands dirty by planting vegetables and fruit, making compost and recycling.

Mrs Davies said: "We are all so excited about winning the competition and about the arrival of the greenhouse."

The greenhouse will be presented to the school in June.

Chorleywood Primary also won the Royal Horticultural Society School Award in April 2012.
