The Bushey Festival will be "bigger than ever" this year as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The festival will have more than 70 events spanning the two-week period between June 29 and July 14.

Concerts, sporting challenges, quizzes and The Bushey and Oxhey Round Table Beer Festival are just some of the many activities that will be on offer.

BBC Radio 4’s ‘Any Questions?’, hosted by Jonathan Dimbleby, will also be coming to The Bushey Academy on Friday, July 12.

Festival committee chairman, Janet McNulty, said the event has always endeavoured to provide a busy programme, however, this year there are more activities than ever before.

Mrs McNulty said: "This year there are more events than ever. I think local people are even more committed to get involved this year because it’s the 30th anniversary."

With "bigger than ever quizzes", special concerts and exciting new sporting events, Mrs McNulty said she is hopeful the itinerary will draw in the crowds.

She added: "We have tried to put a celebratory aspect to each of the events and what’s interesting is how tickets have sold earlier and more quickly than usual."

The Big Bushey Bike Ride is one of the new additions to this year’s festival.

Set to start at Moatfield Recreation ground, in Bournehall Lane, both the 50km and 32km routes will take riders into Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire’s countryside.

Mrs McNulty commented on how this year will see an increase in the more unusual sporting activities, such as the Archery ‘Have a go’ and the Come Scottish Dancing Taster Evening.

With some of the events already nearly sold out, the festival committee organiser is encouraging those interested in any of the activities to book early.

Mrs McNulty, who has been committee chair for the past three years, said the hard work has been an "extremely interesting and rewarding experience".

She added: "It’s great because you feel people really appreciate what we’re trying to do.

"We’ve got a great team and a terrific community that do all the work."

The festival committee starts planning the event in September, with most of the events finalised in January.

Leaflets were distributed to Bushey homes last month and all are welcome to attend the festival.
