A donation of thousands of pounds worth of furniture has been made to a Garston primary school.

Garden benches and canteen furniture was donated by Pitney Bowes, a company that specialises in communication technology, and arrived in time for the Coates Way JMI and Nursery School's annual fete on July 6.

The furniture was contributed following Pitney Bowes’ move to a new headquarters building in Hatfield and the donation comes a year after the company gave £4,000 to fund repairs to the school playground.

Steven Wells, Headteacher of Coates Way, commented: "The school is incredibly grateful for the support from Pitney Bowes. The company has been hugely generous in the help they have given us and are our biggest donator."

Previously, the school has not had any outdoor seating, which has been particularly frustrating during events such as the fete. Pitney Bowes has also donated office furniture and tables for the school canteen.

Transportation of the equipment was provided by Capital Poster Services Ltd free of charge.

Elected Mayor Dorothy Thornhill added: "It’s a pleasure to see companies like Pitney Bowes and Capital Poster Services coming together to help out our local schools in this way. In difficult economic times, schools are very grateful for this kind of support."
