More than 200 young skaters, BMX riders, inliners and scooters showed off their skills at Croxley Skate Park during a three-day event this weekend.

The Croxley Skate Jam event is now in its 7th year and attracted plenty of supporters to cheer on the competitors and create a fun atmosphere.

Watford Observer:

The weekend began with a beginners jam on Friday at which competitors as young as eight tried out new tricks and gained confidence.

Saturday was reserved for skate, scoot and inline jams while Sunday was then the day for BMXs the winners on both days were presented with prizes.

As well as the skating, young people got the chance to turn their hand to tie-dying t-shirts.

Croxley Skate park, close to Baldwins Lane, includes mini half pipe, flat banks, quarter pipes, fun box, spine, half pyramid, jump box, grind blocks and rails.

Vice chairman of Three Rivers District Council, Councillor Brian Norman joined in the fun on Saturday and Councillor Les Mead was the guest of honour at the event on Sunday.

Both took the opportunity to speak with the young people and parents who were spectating while Councillor Mead even tried his hand at tie-dying.

He said: "It was very good, we gave out a few prizes.

"The riders were excellent but it is quite frightening what these young people can do."

The event also drew a positive response from the participants with comments on the Croxley Skate Park page including "pretty rad today", "so sick today sent backflip on air bag" and simply "roll on 2014".
