The driver of the bus that fatally hit Garston teenager Jan Henney has been found not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.

The jury at Harrow Crown Court returned its verdict on Raymond Clark this morning after deliberating for more than a day and a half.

However the 70-year-old, from Lincoln Drive, Croxley Green, has admitted the lesser charge of causing death by careless driving.

He has been bailed to return for sentencing on September 26.

The verdict comes after three-day trial where the court heard that Clark was driving the single-decker Arriva bus on the wrong side of the road when it struck the 18-year-old Parmiter’s student.

Clark moved into the on-coming lane, in Garston Lane, as the judged vehicles parked close to a traffic island were blocking his path.

The prosecution argued there was enough space to manoeuvre the bus through on the left side of the road, which Clark would have seen had he slowed down.

However Clark maintained he "searched very diligently" for pedestrians before deciding to go the wrong way around the traffic island.

Jan was hit as she emerged from behind a parked car and was looking the other way at the expected flow of traffic.

She was initially taken to Watford General Hospital, before being transferred for specialist care at St Mary's Hospital in London, where she died a few days later.
