Miles Shinkwin has enjoyed a dream year both inside the ring and out of it and it continued this week when he signed for one of the biggest promoters in Europe.

The Bushey boxer has signed a two-year promotional contract with Frank Warren, which is likely to see Shinkwin fight four times a year and have his bouts televised on subscription channel BoxNation.

A broken rib aside, Shinkwin's year in the squared circle has been a good one as he picked up the vacant International Masters Bronze light-heavyweight title in March and followed it up with a hugely-entertaining Southern Area title win four months later.

And things couldn't have gone much better away from the sport. The 26-year-old has married, moved into his new house last week and awaits the birth of his first child.

Shinkwin recognised: "It has been a bit manic and everything seems to have come at once but it has been a brilliant year."

The birth of his first child, who is due in April, is the icing on the cake and Shinkwin added: "I was hard to beat before, imagine how hard I'll be to beat now I am fighting for my little baby."

Shinkwin is unbeaten in his nine fights as a professional and expected his Southern Area title win over Joel McIntyre in July to propel his career.

Three promotional companies showed an interest but nothing materialised. Shinkwin admitted that when the initial meeting with Warren was rescheduled, he did question if it would be a similar story.

But the contract was finalised during Monday's rearranged meeting. His first three fights as a pro were televised on BoxNation but this is his first promotional contract.

"All I want to do is fight and that is what I have told them," Shinkwin said: "But I want meaningful fights, not fights with people who are not worth beating up."

Shinkwin, who returned to the gym a month ago following his broken rib, expects to fight again in mid-to late February for a 'recognised' title.

The former Queens School pupil is hoping he will be in a position to fight for the British title next year.

Shinkwin recently became a self-employed plumber but hopes he will be able to box full-time if he wins his as yet unscheduled fight in February.

He said: "It would be great if someone offered me £40-£50,000 and said 'go on, turn full time' but that isn't the world we live in.

"If I win my next fight then I believe I will turn full time. I cannot say much more about that fight because it is not concrete but there has been an approach for me to fight for a recognised title and I'm confident it will happen. If I win it then I expect to go full-time."

Shinkwin is looking for additional sponsorship. Those interested should email russelld@srdrecruit.com.
