A flag design created by Kingsway Infant School will represent Watford in a national exhibition next year.

The design will represent the town in Flag 2015, a competition where schools across the country designed a new flag which represents their community.

The project marks the 750th anniversary of the first real convening of parliament.

Kingsway’s arts coordinator said: "Our design was inspired by our local environment. The children had lovely ideas and it was interesting to see what they thought represented their local area.

"The child that was chosen to be put through to the final created the design and each quarter represented something different.

"The football represents Watford Football Club, the children in the top right corner is the child with siblings, the bottom left corner is a representation of the woods in Watford, in the bottom right corner is represents children from different ethnicities in our school and the crown in the middle is representing our school logo."

Richard Harrington added: "I think Kingsway’s have done a great job, and am really proud that they are our Watford entry, they really got into the spirit of the competition.

"The final designs from each constituency will go into an online exhibition, and around 90 will be chosen to be turned into real flags which will go on display in locations including Parliament Square - I’ll be rooting for Kingsway’s.

"Other schools from Watford will be able to take part too, and upload their flags in March 2015, learning a bit more about our history at the same time."

Mr Harrington is running tours of parliament for school groups, and has invited interested Watford schools to get in touch as he has three spaces left for the New Year.
