A verdict is expected tomorrow into the inquest of a Watford soldier and another UK serviceman killed in “friendly fire” in Afghanistan in 2009.

The court previously heard Captain Tom Sawyer, from Watford, who served with the Royal Artillery, and Corporal Danny Winter, of 45 Commando Royal Marines, were on a rooftop providing fire support for an operation clearing Taliban compounds north east of Gereshk, central Helmand, when they were hit by an anti-tank missile attack ordered by their Danish counterparts.

Coroner David Ridley, had resumed the inquest in Salisbury, Wiltshire, on Monday, February 23, and is now expected to conclude proceedings tomorrow.

Capt Sawyer, 26, is survived by his wife Katy, whom he married in March 2008, his parents Martyn and Susan and sister Wendy.
