A spoof Big Brother-style video featuring teenagers who are confused about elections is encouraging young people in Hertsmere to register to vote.

The video by Hertsmere Borough Council is being shared to educate viewers about who is eligible to vote, how to register and the different ways to vote.

It also highlights the importance of hearing from everyone in the community in elections and tells young people it is the best way to “help shape the world you want”.

There is just one week left to register to vote in the General Election on May 7 and recent surveys have indicated that around of half of those aged 18 to 21 in the UK have not yet registered.

Rules introduced since the last election mean that young people can no longer rely on their parents or university to register for them.

To register online visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Hertsmere residents can find out if they are eligible or registered to vote by calling 020 8207 7481 or emailing elections@hertsmere.gov.uk.

Details of the Hertsmere candidates can be found at www.hertsmere.gov.uk.
