Just two developers are left in the running for the long-awaited re-development of the precinct in South Oxhey.

Councillors are attending private meetings at Three Rivers District Council today and they will be able to see how Countryside Properties or United House Developments are planning to revamp the precinct in South Oxhey.

Approximately half of the shops will be kept open while the north side of the precinct is developed, then the car park, before the final regeneration phase of the south precinct takes place.

As part of the plans, up to 450 new homes could be built.

Bidders had to submit a main bid, which incorporated the financial, residential and retail aspects of the project. But they also had the opportunity to submit another bid, which allowed them to propose new ideas.

Alan Head, head of major projects at Three Rivers District Council, said: “The proposed redevelopment of its centre of the South Oxhey moved a step closer with the submission of final bids by prospective developer partners on 27 March 2015.

“The council is currently evaluating the two strongest proposals, which are those submitted by Countryside Properties and United House Developments. Both of these organisations have an excellent track record of delivering successful regeneration projects.

“The winning proposals aim to create a new high quality residential and retail environment for South Oxhey alongside good value for money for the council and the winning bidder will be announced at the end of May 2015.”

Councillor Matthew Bedford said: "It is really good news that we have two strong bidders committed to this project.

"The council will be assessing the bids against the range of criteria agreed by councillors to ensure we get maximum benefits for the local community."
