Former Watford MP Claire Ward was back on her old stomping ground to get behind Matt Turmaine’s parliamentary campaign.

Mrs Ward joined a Labour rally in the town centre on Friday before door knocking for two hours with other supporters.

Mr Turmaine said: “I was delighted and honoured Claire, who was very popular here, came to help my campaign.

“She campaigned very hard for Watford General, as have I done and I intend to do so after the election.

Mr Turmaine has also endorsed a commitment by the Labour party to pledge £300m to end the country’s ‘pothole crisis’.

He said: “I know how frustrating it is to have to deal with the enormous number of really huge potholes in our town and surrounding area.

“They are a danger to motorists and all road users, including bus passengers and cyclists.

“This fund will help deal with the pothole problem, which has got so much worse under the Tories and Lib Dems.”

Hertfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Councillor Terry Douris, said £300m was a “drop in the ocean” compared to what it would cost to fix every pothole.
