Members of Watford Rotary Club took advantage of the thousands celebrating Watford Football Club’s return to the Premier Division in Cassiobury Park on Bank Holiday Monday to raise more than £1,800 for victims of the Nepal earthquake.
They set up a Shelterbox tent in the park to demonstrate one of the Rotary supported charities which provides shelter for families made homeless in major disasters.
The team circulated through the crowds making a bucket collection and received donations from the football fans there.
Jenny Muir, head of Rotary in Herts, Beds and Bucks, said: "We have had a direct appeal from Rotary in Nepal for shelter, food and water so we are concentrating on raising money for Shelterbox."
Fundraising is continuing and has now topped £2,000, a large proportion will go directly to Shelterbox and the remainder to other Rotary Charities supporting disaster relief in Nepal.
