Gardening and craft workshops were laid on by Watford New Hope as it opened up its glorious community garden to the public.

Residents were able to take in the charity’s idyllic garden tucked away behind houses in Rickmansworth Road on Saturday.

Volunteers and service users were on hand to greet residents and offer workshops, with the event raising more than £1,000 for the homeless charity.

Chief Executive Matthew Heasman said: "We obviously can’t allow people in to have a look at the night shelter so this is the ideal opportunity to welcome people to come and look at what we do.

"The garden is a therapeutic environment for our service users who were right at the heart of the open day, serving teas and leading workshops.

"We were blessed with fine weather, hundreds of people turned up during the day and we took about £1,000 in donations so it was a great success all round."
