Grab your coffee and ya custard creams and I’ll begin this weeks menegarie. Now I don’t know about you, but whilst on a day to day basis I consider myself a pretty tough cookie, when it comes to the dentist or hospital stuff I’d gladly let someone whack me around the head with a very large frying pan if it meant that I’d be totally knocked out…although that’s not an invitation.   But how would you fancy staying awake and singing your way through brain surgery?....oh, and playing the guitar of course?.............

                       Watford Observer:

I must admit to a clench and shudder like hearing nails on a chalkboard when I read about brazilian medical patient Anthony Kullkamp Dias. He stayed awake through surgery to remove a brain tumour so that doctors could monitor his motor function, not content with that he also sung a medley of songs and strummed his guitar…one for Youtube surely? Oh and if on cue  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uS9I6puPy6I  58 secs of  his horizontal version of The Beatles “Yesterday”. Being a real music geek I was busy listening to the beeps of the machines in the background and thinking what a great percussive sound if only they could’ve been in time. You have to wonder whether they just  kept this poor chap awake as some sort of Karma because his a banker ? However at the end of the day 90% of the tumour was removed which is cool news I’m sure you’ll agree?

& staying on cool news, due to increasing censorship, the young people in Uganda had grown disinterested as to what was going on until some Hiphop artists decided to get round this by turning journalists and rapping their own news programme. Newzbeat is a five minute burst that goes out before the main news on the popular N.T.V channel  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E16uVOkQJA it’s broadcast in English and also the local language of  Luganda & nothing is off limits, local, international or political and so it’s become a big hit amongst the youth. Having seen a few  programmes I’m now finding our own six o’clock news rather underwhelming so I’m writing to ITV to ask if Alastair Stewart would be up for doing the same thing.                    Watford Observer:   Talking of rap I’ve been meaning to make a new video. It’s to the remix of a track

“Don’t Say Nuthin If It Ain’t Worthwhile” that was to help raise awareness of the condition M.E. This is the original https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uYhUSFuxoU where despite being ill lots of lovely M.E sufferers sent me pics of themselves with their mouths covered to highlight the title of the track because there are those who  often say things about M.E when they clearly don’t have a clue about the reality of living with such a chronic physical debilitating condition. I’m  in a  relapse at the moment which for most M.E sufferers means  normal daily limited function drops to an even more limited level of functioning and we feel even more pants than we usually do. But I’ve made a start on the new video by purchasing the props needed and now have a Balaclava, two rolls of Fragile tape,  ball & chain, black gloves, headphones, megaphone and an England flag….and realising it could look rather dodgy I’d just like to say in my defence  it really really is for An M.E awareness video and not any other type of video, cough splutter moving swiftly on….

           Watford Observer:

In local news, what has an LP ( for those young whippersnappers amongst you, its  a long player or  music album on vinyl)  & a woolly hat  got in common?.....They come together at the Uber cool  LP café in Watford every Tuesday in term time between 10-12 that’s what. Whether you upcycle, mend, alter, knit, sew, embroider, crochet etc you can head down there, make new friends whilst listening to good music. It’s a hobby that many younger people are now getting involved in and a great way for people of different ages to get together and share their experience. Materials and tuition can be provided for a small charge so it caters for newbies too . They are also taking part in Watford Live this Saturday 13th  with their Guerrilla knitting  installation up on the parade near Yates from 11-4 so head on down there and say Hi. You can also contact Jenny Young on 01923 443740.

I’d like to leave you with a very lovely and apt quote that I read this week by an  unknown author that said:

“Whatever you do today make it a good one because you’re exchanging a day of your life for it”
