A morning spent trying on raunchy underwear in a lingerie shop in Watford town centre followed by a liquid lunch of brightly coloured shots and draping yourself over a baby grand – it’s all in a day’s work for the fuzzy, felty cast (and their humans) of Avenue Q.

Sultry cabaret singer Lucy the Slut and the Bad Behaviour Bears were in town to promote their mischievous, politically incorrect, part-puppet, part-human musical, which tells the story of the loveable characters on a downtown New York street trying to make sense of life’s burning issues.

Lucy spent the morning stocking up on a few wardrobe ‘essentials’ at the adult store Simply Pleasure before joining her naughty companions in the Forum restaurant at the Colosseum, where they proceeded to coerce unsuspecting journalists and various Watford figures (I swear I saw the team from Watford Museum going back for seconds) into downing shots with them.

Lucy then regaled us with a saucy rendition of one of the show’s numbers, rolling about on top of the piano and putting her ‘assets’ to their very best use.

The opening night of Avenue Q is the perfect occasion to launch this year’s Herts Pride, which takes place in August to promote equality and diversity for the public benefit.
