Okay, gargle your coffee, warm up those voices & sing like you were Aretha Franklin…yes you men too. “R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Find out what it means to me, sock it to me, sock it to me sock it to me, sock it to me….. Ah yes, Respect, remember that? While most remember the song, sadly the word hasn’t transposed well through the years…..
I don’t believe it has anything to do with age but more the individual. As the kids hurry in and out of our local supermarket in the morning buying their munchies before hopping onto the school bus, it never fails to make me smile at how respectful they often are, holding doors open for the adults, standing back and letting someone elderly go in front of them, and yet I witness those of an older generation letting the door swing behind them & pushing passed others without an “Excuse me” or “Sorry”
Just how disrespectful people can be raised its head on a larger scale recently in the case of Welsh Wonder Sir Tom Jones & the BBC talent show The Voice, when he found out at the very last minute that he’d been booted off the next series in favour of Boy George. It wasn’t so much the axing itself , that’s just the entertainment industry, but it was the way in which it was administered with no respect whatsoever. Having cleared his schedule for this next series it wasn’t until the BBC had signed Boy George as a replacement that Tom was told, in fact it has come to light that some top industry figures already knew about the sneaky underhand cogs that were ticking at the BBC a year ago.
Personally I liked Tom at the helm, he was the father of the panel, he gave the show a bit of class, he bought a lifetimes experience so when he gave advice you could respect it.
It’s natural for us to learn from things going on around us and especially from our elders and so it saddens me when an organisation as big and as widely known as the BBC behave in this manner because it sends out the wrong message.
Nobody deserves to be humiliated in this way and when it’s in the public eye it just makes it a whole lot worse, although in this case I think the BBC have signed their own death warrant.
I’m predicting that without Toms presence this will be the last series of “The Voice” and by the time they realise they’re dreadful mistake and want him back, Tom will Sock it to them with a big fat “No”
& I think Mr Cowell signing up Mr Jones for the X-Factor would be a real coup? What do you reckon?
I don’t like seeing anyone disrespected no matter who they are famous or otherwise, Respect doesn’t cost anything but it certainly makes society a better place to live in don’t you think?
Staying on Respect for my Gizmo/gadget/gift of the week I ventured onto the online RAF museum shop and chose this beautiful 16 x 24 inch Dambuster setting off Print .
& also this spectacular Red Arrows Jigsaw both £9.99 each.
There was also a wartime recipe book with its nostalgic dumplings and corn beef rissoles amongst the healthy recipes from the second world war at £6.
It’s a wonderful site with everything from a £1.99 pewter Lancaster badge in the shape of a plane to sheepskin flying jackets at £645. Not only that ,it’s hard to peruse the site without a sense of pride and come away feeling uplifted in some way so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did? http://www.rafmuseumshop.com/
In M.E news, it doesn’t hurt to remind people where we began and just how far we’ve come, so for that reason I am indeed reminding you that having already raised £500.000 towards biomedical research into M.E the charity and its supporters are marching on to try and take that figure to one million by May 2016 . As someone who suffers with M.E I wholeheartedly support this charity as I believe they have made great gains over the years and done more than any other to give us real tangible hope , coupled with the fact that unlike some charities I know that every penny raised and donated is going where it’s supposed to go and not on fat cat salaries, if you’re an individual or group and fancy getting involved to help the charity reach the next target you can read more by going to http://www.investinme.org/IIME-Newslet-1503-01.htm or http://ldifme.org/lets-march-on-a-million/ it would be mightily appreciated.
