For those that live on the posh side of the street the translation of this weeks title is “Having a Laugh” or if you’re really really posh “Larf” I do believe that however you say it, it’s the best medicine there is...…….
Unless you were born with a face like grumpy cat I’m sure all of us could name at least one thing that presses our chuckle button? & don’t you find it funnier when the person you’re with can’t understand why you’re laughing in the first place? I often see my mother looking on from the side not sure whether to cure my hysteria with a slap or call the men in white coats. oh and best of all Laughter is free.
Research is supporting the theory that laughing can have therapeutic benefits and before anæsthetic, surgeons even distracted patients with humour, but not to worry I don’t think Doctors will be replacing painkillers with a course of Knock Knock Jokes any time soon, but it certainly gets you thinking.
While it might seem inappropriate using laughter to deal with extremely stressful situations it certainly beats the alternative to sickness and an early death. Late Comedian George Burns who lived to be 100 said “If you ask what is the single most important key to longevity, I would have to say it is avoiding worry, stress and tension. And if you didn't ask me, I'd still have to say it.”
According to studies, Laughing can boost the immune system, increase oxygen, relax muscles and a whole heap of other beneficial stuff. It’s not the humour itself that’s beneficial but the simple act of laughing.
It can also make you more attractive to be around too. None of us like to be around someone that’s always got drama and complaining about their lot, but we sometimes forget to apply that to ourselves. Have you ever stepped back and thought about what you bring to the table regards your relationships online and off? There’s nothing wrong in sharing the bad stuff, that’s what good friends are for, but don’t forget to balance it out and share some laughs along the way.
While I’m normally a big fan of using yoga to remedy most situations , one thing I won’t be taking part in any time soon is Laughter Yoga, it reminds me of the film “One flew over the cuckoo’s nest” be scared……be very scared https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOY7L88RV70
While this weeks gadget/gizmo/gift of the week won’t get you laughing, it would if I fell off….. and I would. what is it? It’s a self-balancing electric unicycle scooter also known as an Airwheel . At between £500- £1000’s depending on the model chosen I won’t be affording one any time soon, but with my balance and navigation skills maybe that’s a good thing? It’s pretty exciting to watch though & you can see it in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=72&v=S0wdWLJPGLY In M.E news a big shout out of thanks to Charity Invest In ME who very kindly & speedily sent my Step-mum Kate a T-shirt to wear on her trek to the top of Kilimanjaro, it was a lovely surprise & she’s hoping to get some photos of her modelling it at some point on her journey. I’d also like to thank those of you you’ve donated, every penny counts and it’s extremely appreciated. For those that missed last weeks Column, Kate who will be 70 next year and has never done anything like this is taking the 7 day Lemosho route to the top of Kilimanjaro in aid of two very underfunded charities Invest in ME & The National Osteoporosis Society . In local news and staying on ‘avin a giraffe, due to Local government boundary policies, new developments and the need to balance out the area for electoral purposes, the conservatives are proposing that the Greenbank estate, and West of Courtlands Drive under the Nascot Ward be moved to the Leggatts Ward. As kids growing up it was common knowledge that the Nascot Ward was where all the posh people lived and Leggatts ward was more spit and saw dust. An area can immediately give you kudos before someone’s even met you, the name alone is enough to impress.
That’s why local companies like The Grove & The Harry Potter Studio advertise themselves as London and not Watford, of course it’s snobbery but that’s just how it is and that’s exactly the same problem the Conservatives are going to have with wanting to shift communities out of the posh area into the Spit and sawdust zone. A zone that I went to school in and spent most of my childhood, but just the reputation & label it had even back then. On a more serious note residents are going to be forced from a Liberal democrat ward into a Labour ward with politicians they never voted for and for many quite frankly don’t want. While the mere mention of politicians gets me growling like a grizzly bear I can’t deny that overall the Lib Dems have done a good job around here, so I do believe there is going to be a fight…….. Better keep that sawdust handy
